Is Animal Communication Real?
Is Animal Communication Real?
Science may tell you no. Your Aunt Harriet may definitely tell you no.
But...
What if?
What if animal communication really is real?
Wouldn't that just be super fantastic?
Imagine actually talking with your animal companion. Asking questions. Receiving guidance. Finding out what they're thinking. Getting a joke here and there.
Holy smokes.
Wouldn't that just be the bee's knees?
I certainly thought so.
When I was a child, I remember watching Doctor Dolittle. Who doesn't remember Doctor Dolittle talking to the animals?
I wanted it to be real.
I wanted to talk to my cat, my dogs, my bunnies, my guinea pig. I wanted to know what they were thinking and what they wanted to tell me.
I wanted it so much.
And, like a lot of children probably heard at one time or another, I was told:
"Don't be silly. It's just a movie."
Well...
LOOK AT ME NOW.
I facilitate conversations between humans and animals.
That's what I do.
I talk to animals.
Look out, Dr. D.
And one of the things I love most about animal communication is that the animals continually surprise me.
They don't all deliver profound messages about the meaning of life.
Sometimes they're hilarious.
Sometimes they're incredibly practical.
Sometimes they tell us something that makes their person say, "I KNEW IT!"
And sometimes they share something so specific that everyone in the conversation suddenly becomes very quiet.
The Things Animals Have Told Me
My dog Jubee once shared the story of what happened to her puppies and helped me understand an experience from her past in an entirely different way.
A client's dog told me he wanted his own special spot near the rocking chair and that he wanted to be in the room while his person meditated.
A cat told me the reason he was always staring out the window was because...
he saw aliens.
His person immediately yelled:
"I KNEW IT!"
I mean, really. How fantastic is that?
A dog named Bean explained that his role in his family—the pack, as he saw it—was to be the alarm.
Why did he bark at everything happening outside the window?
Because somebody needed to make sure EVERYONE KNEW SOMETHING WAS HAPPENING.
Bean had a job.
And apparently he took it very seriously.
A cat named Creme Brulee explained why he peed in the shower.
Was he upset?
Making a statement?
Trying to communicate some deep emotional distress?
Nope.
The shower was simply way more convenient than the litter box.
Fair enough, Creme Brulee.
Sylvester the cat explained that he hadn't left home because he didn't love his family.
He was on an adventure.
And he'd come home when he was ready.
Anneke the cat described her feline sister as behaving like a princess.
When I connected with her sister?
She informed me that she was a princess.
Apparently that matter was not up for debate.
These are the kinds of conversations I get to experience with animals.
Funny ones.
Tender ones.
Unexpected ones.
Conversations that help people understand behavior differently, see their animal companion's perspective, or simply experience the joy of discovering a little more about the remarkable being sharing their life.
So...Is Animal Communication Really Real?
I believe it is.
I can't ask you to believe something simply because I believe it.
And I don't think you need to.
You can be skeptical.
You can be curious.
You can wonder how any of this could possibly work.
In fact, I rather like curiosity.
Because sometimes the most interesting things in life begin with:
What if?
What if animals are communicating far more than we've realized?
What if the thoughts, feelings, images, sensations, and impressions we sometimes receive around them aren't always our imagination?
What if our animal companions have perspectives, opinions, humor, preferences, memories, and wisdom they would love the opportunity to share?
And what if we slowed down long enough to listen?
You don't have to know exactly what you believe before having a conversation with your animal companion.
You can simply come curious.
The animals can take it from there.
This Is What I Learned
That little girl watching Doctor Dolittle wasn't silly for wishing she could talk to animals.
She was onto something.
Today I get to do the very thing I once wished was possible.
I listen.
The animals share.
Their people respond.
Sometimes we cry.
Sometimes we gain an entirely new understanding of something that has been happening.
And sometimes a cat tells us he's watching aliens outside the window.
Which, quite frankly, keeps things interesting.
So, is animal communication real?
You bet I believe it is.
And after all these years, I still think being able to talk with animals is absolutely the bee's knees.
You May Be Wondering
Do I have to believe in animal communication for it to work?
No. You don't have to arrive with absolute certainty or leave your skepticism at the door. Curiosity is enough. You can listen to what comes through, notice what resonates with you, and decide for yourself what the experience means.
How does animal communication work?
Animal communication is an intuitive form of communication in which information may be received through thoughts, feelings, images, physical sensations, words, or simply a sense of knowing.

Can I ask my animal companion specific questions?
Absolutely. Questions are an important part of a session. You might want to understand a behavior, ask about a change in your animal companion's life, explore your relationship, hear their perspective on something, or simply ask what they would like you to know.
And yes...
Sometimes they have questions, opinions, and requests of their own.
May you see the world through the eyes of love, remembering that we are all part of one living, sacred whole.
